And speaking of the situation getting worse and worse, Kouko was clearly all too happy to add fuel to the fire. While he definitely had sympathy for her troubles given he of all people knew how awful having his ears fooled with was, he couldn’t totally blame Annariel given her… demeanour thus far. And yet… no matter who was at fault, there was definitely more to worry about now. Wincing in worry as the troublesome cat snapped at the elf’s ears, Mairwen readied himself for a scream or snarl of frustration as he watched; huddling into his cloak a little more. The storm didn’t come, somehow… but the feline soon found trouble came his way regardless.
While initially a little happy to find Kouko was standing up for him (and a bit worried… this would make it all the worse if he did mess up…!), Mairwen couldn’t possibly relax in the midst of all this pressure. The little cat was just making things worse, honestly; the elves didn’t seem all that fussy about him! ”U-Uh, it’s okay, K-Kouko, they’re probably as nervous as…!” As he felt a warmth touch him, the boy trailed off entirely, gradually freezing up entirely – his body went unnaturally still; while his eyes gradually glazed over. This – he couldn’t deal with – this. He could feel her... he was touching her! Someone was touching him! A girl was touching him! Touching! Him! He wasn’t a girl! She was a girl! He was real! He wasn’t the same! He wasn’t – He wasn’t -!!!
Gasping silently as his breathing immediately skipped from stopping entirely to total hyperventilation, Mairwen just threw his arms up to toss Kouko’s embrace off of himself, before outright diving to the ground away from the girl; briefly struggling across the ground before he felt safe enough to bring himself back to his feet. The boy was clearly terrified, his face even more pale than before… but, a guilty expression coloured his face soon enough. ”I-I-I’m sorry, I’m really sorry! J-Just, please don’t – don’t touch me like that, please? I’m sens- sensitive, sensitive!” Shivering from disgust, Mairwen tried to conjure his spirits once more… at the very least, the witch seemed to have her head in the game. As horrendous as he felt having to think that.
But, then his ears flicked in recognition of noise – steps, heavy steps; further away… multiple people? He couldn’t quite tell, but as metal shined in the moonlight - ”Everyone! It’s trouble! N-No more banter, battle positions!” blurted out the boy, hastily preparing his bow and notching an arrow – stealth was definitely out of the question now that they had company! But, as he felt danger draw near, a beat settled his heart, but pounded in his mind. Words glittered on his tongue, barely restrained by his will; and the faint whirr of instruments in tune whispered through his ears. Like being alone in a concert hall; that tense but serene silence before the symphony began… a face, a voice, and a soul – a glimpse of something he had never seen, heard, nor felt drifted through his mind. Someone important… but…
”Eternally, we will be, in each other’s memory; Racing towards our one true destiny…"
A single voice rang like an entire orchestra – it seemed as if the night’s ambience dimmed in recognition of the song; an audience awaiting the main event. Even outnumbered and taken by surprise, the lyrics seemed to swing the battle in the group’s favour; a determination welling up in his allies’ hearts. The road would be dark and perilous, but such was the life of a hero. And, no matter what, there was someone waiting at the other side of the tunnel… there was always something – someone – too important to falter for.
”The night is full of fear, and in the darkness my dreams disappear; The screams are hard to bear, but in my mind I still hear them loud and clear; Now the light I see, ahead of me, is like a swirling galaxy; And what I’ve left behind is all a distant memory… If I were to know, which way to go, and what our future holds; I would be the one, your only guide; forever by your side…!”
OOC: Mairwen is now using A Fine Death on Annariel, Kouko, and Aislin. As he has started a new song, A Song for Friends has reduced all of their remaining skill cooldowns by one post.

At this point Kouko couldn't tell what was going on anymore. Her cat spirit continued to take over her body (and mind most of the times) to do as it pleased, mostly playfully but regardless it was something she was already used to. Her team continuously arguing back and forth made no sense to her and she decided not to bother with paying attention either. 'M' also looked flustered about something while looking at her but she couldn't really tell why, if the situation continued like this then she would have to finish the mission alone... even if that meant getting rid of everyone in it.
Her ears twitched for a moment after letting her hand rest on her sword, she moved to the back-line, to where 'M' had retreated to and behind her while getting prepared to dispose of her team but her -temporal- ally's words stopped her. Apparently the enemy was on their way and it seemed to be serious, the ranger took position and started to recite what seemed to be a spell in her eyes, not like it mattered to her, her pre-requisite to go back to her original form was met and she would finally be free, even if only for a moment. Lucky for her team that this happened in any case.
"'M', cover me with your bow..." Said Kouko while kneeling down on the floor, adopting a meditation posture and channeling her ancestral spirits with herself. She carefully placed herself a few meters behind Mairwen hoping that they would offer some cover for her, if anything she would be dying before completing her transformation but it was a risk she was willing to take. "Anything... to be free from this body..." Murmured Kouko before completely ignoring her surroundings and focusing on her spiritual energy, her ancestors now standing next to her while channeling their power to her, a show anyone with magic knowledge would witness at ease.
OOC: It is at this point where Kouko is more vulnerable to fatal attacks, she's now getting ready to use her Fox Hound skill and change forms with it. On her next post if she's not dead yet, Kouko will transform.

Post by Annariel on Nov 23, 2016 12:01:24 GMT -4
To put it mildly, Annariel wasn't in the best of moods. In an effort to calm herself though, she blocked out whatever her companions were saying. For the most part, Anna saw herself as someone tolerable and reasonable but the indignation her ear had suffered was too much. So however reasonable she was, there was always a line. In order to not act... in an un-chivalrous manner, Annariel chose silence. She had given her word that she'd see her companions safely through this ordeal but if Kouko's antics continued, the Elven Mystic Warden wasn't sure if it was wise to continue on.
She was surprised when Aislin made moves to reconciliation the group. Though then again, maybe she was a Dark Elf but she was an Elf nonetheless, just as expected. Perhaps the right word wasn't scolded but at least, Aislin's words knocked some sense back into Annariel, who with a thin smile nodded at her elven compatriot. "I understand, but don't worry. I'm not fit for leading of this group, verily. So I'll stop and just concentrate on guarding you. She shifted her gaze from Aislin to Mairwen's slim back to make her point.
In a manner speaking but not intentionally, Anna was going to use their run through the village as a judge of whether or not they were fit to enter the mine. If no confidence was instilled in her, well Annariel would cut her journey short. She wasn't going to throw away her life for a buffoon.
Regardless, as the party moved closer to the town Annariel hanged back as she had last said. Watching over the rear guard and overlooking her companions was the best position for her.
Then things shifted gears. Their Ranger must have heard enemies nearby. In a quick and fluid motion, Annariel drew her saber from it's scabbard and at that point noticed five Gnolls charging their feline companions. Mairwen started to sign and an odd feeling started to course through Annariel... she felt that some magic was at work. Interesting
She also saw that Kouko preparing something. But that also meant that both would be exposed to the charging Gnolls. "A d'yaebl aép arse!" (Devil up your arse!) Using a rather coarse (Insulting) battle cry in elven, Annariel looked at Aislin. "I'll hold them, use your witchcraft on the heavily armored ones."
Then literary speaking Annariel catapulted into action. Her quick thinking analyzed a suitably unthinkable action, but the purpose was to buy time for her companions to rally and mount a proper defense against their attackers. So the Mystic Warden did what they did best, jump into the fray (quite seriously this time).
Using her natural agility and expressing it at it's maximum level with her Seeker Charge, Annariel ran up the wall of a building and like an arrow darted through the rooftop. Her speed did not slow down but only increased with the obstacles and in a blinding span of seconds she on the other side of the house and in the air.
As fast as an arrow she descended on the Gnolls. These Gnolls looked like they had combat experience and they moved in formation. This was perfect for Annariel, in fact the more organized her opponents the better for the Mystic Warden's tactic. After all the Manthwe'ven were an order of knights who were founded to fight armies.
Annariel landed behind the 3 Gnolls armed with axes and shields who were leading. Using the momentum she attack the center one, seeking to slash at it's back, hopefully killing it in one blow. Additionally, because the 3 Gnolls were charging away from her, Annariel's lighting fast swordplay shined, her skill to interrupt the action of opponents came into play as well. So in a fluid motion she cut at the back leg of each of the shield wielding Gnolls. The wound was meant as superficial but also insulting to any warrior worth it's salt.
In the span of moments, Annariel had moved from the back lines, across the rooftop of a building and had jumped between the the charging Gnolls. Landing behind the leading ones and exposing her back to the ones more heavily armed. However, that didn't mean that Annariel was defenseless or that she was throwing her life away. Her Seeker Charge had a secondary effect and it granted her an uncanny ability to dodge attacks for a brief period of time.
Hopefully... her companions could mount a counter attack while this brief period of protection was up.
Annariel has Uncanny Dodge until her next turn. Meaning she will dodge all attacks against her.
If the Gnolls in front, her Interrupt skill will trigger and prevent them from disengaging her. If the Gnolls behind her try to run past her and get in melee range of Annariel Interrupt will also trigger.

Well, Anna seemed responsive . . . but also now seemed uninterested in holding the party together. Which between Aislin, Kouko, and Mairwen honestly left Aislin the closest one fit to lead, and Aislin really didn't want to the responsibility. It was troublesome, and it wasn't that Annariel didn't have the poise to lead, her attitude just needed work. At least that's how Aislin saw it.
Unfortunately she didn't really have time to contemplate how she was going to handle attempting some modicum of leadership in the group with the unruly Kouko, jumpy Mairwen, and pouty Annariel as things quickly went to shit and gnolls began an attack on the party, and they seemed like toughies at that. Three of them seemed awfully nasty in heavy armor and swinging Maces around. Aislin was starting to wish they had someone that was a healer with them . . . though maybe one of the party members could surprise her.
Annariel leaped into battle while 'M' showed a surprising talent for singing that seemed to imbue Aislin with a great amount of willpower to fight. She agreed to seemed like a good idea for her to focus her attempts on the heavily armored Gnolls. In fact . . .
Aislin readied her back and approached a better range for combat for her, which fell a little bit behind the others and flipped her book open to the correct page quickly. She chanted in what sounded like a strange version of Elvish (but was actually nonsense if anyone familiar with the language listened), focusing her efforts at one of the armored gnolls. A smirk spread across her face.
"That should keep them busy for a bit, we should try and fall back into a better position to deal with this! If you're not going to wet yourself, Emmy dear, I'd like you by me so we can support Anna and Kouko from a range!" Aislin tried to communicate, hoping the Gnolls couldn't understand her tactics. This is why she'd wanted to discuss it more thoroughly, but 'M' had been so reticent to describe her skills, and neither Anna or Kouko had really said a word about it.
Ah well, what was done was done. There wasn't really much use crying over spilled milk . . . although maybe there was if you were Kouko. She seemed awfully fond of the stuff.
Aislin has used Blessing of the Full Moon on one of the armored Gnolls. For it's next action it gets a small boost in strength and hallucinates so that it will attack its allies. Cool down 3 Posts.

Intervention The quick interception provided by Annariel caught the veteran Gnolls by surprise. One of the light armored Gnolls in front of her died instantly from the impact of her sword slashing through his armor and deep into his flesh, the other two however surprised but not shaken managed to dodge the incoming slash and take a defensive position with their shields up in front of her preparing for her next attack. These two front-line Gnolls were still ignoring the threats ahead and decided to focus on their current opponent, both of them charging against Annariel at the same time with their shields in front of them, not trying to kill her but to keep her busy enough for their heavy companions to arrive and finish the job. As for the heavy armored Gnolls, they knew what to do the moment one of them fell to the enemy's surprise attack but their movement were delayed as one of them stopped. Gnoll A's face looked scarier and his eyes blackened. Gnoll B, his partner, noticing the situation swung his hammer as fast as he could against him to break through the spell. The hit, although successful left Gnoll A knocked down on the floor unconscious and the heavy part of the task to Gnoll B, charging at Annariel's location with his hammer ready to bash her head down. Unlucky, for the group of 3 gnolls remaining, the elf was too quick for them to follow, making it really hard for any of them to land a single hit on her. Meanwhile... The quick movement of Annariel as she used one of the buildings for her surprise attack didn't come unnoticed. The group of Gnolls hiding inside the town sounded the alarm and only the group of Gnolls carrying crossbows were alerted. 3 of them positioned themselves in the highest buildings of the city, gaining range to shoot at Annariel but refraining from doing so. The order given by Lu'Tra who was carefully hiding in another building was to wait until more enemies showed up before shooting their bolts. These 3 Gnolls were no longer hiding but are only visible by rangers or anybody else within their shooting range.

After channeling her spiritual power without interruptions, Kouko managed to successfully enter her most powerful form. Her whole appearance changed to what she originally should look like. A more mature form of herself emerged with fox-like features and a more confident, serious look in her eyes. A smirk filled her face as she stood up behind 'M', the difference on their heights was notable and her magic flowing through her inspired her even more to aid her team. She walked forward, patting 'M' gently on her head with her hand and unsheathing her sword with her other one. "Thank you for covering me, 'M'" said Kouko with a more mature voice. This time anyone could tell there were some emotions behind her words and the fun for her was yet to begin. "Guys, leave this to me and stay here, I will move ahead to help in the front" were Kouko's words towards 'M' and Aislin before dashing towards the city where Annariel was fighting. Her quick speed in this form allowed her to quickly reach her fellow ally as she held on her point by quickly dodging each attack. During this time, for both Annariel and Kouko it looked like time stopped or rather moved very slowly for a split second where each of them exchanged looks. Kouko simply nodded at Annariel while continuing forward against the heavy armored Gnoll that was approaching, aiming to block his attack and push both of them back towards the city. With Kouko's strength in this form, she managed to block the incoming attack from the heavy armored Gnoll without problems and in a quick motion of swordplay, she was now attempting to cut her foe's head off with a quick slash if he didn't block her or dodge her.
OOC: Kouko's form allows her to move slightly slower than her cat form but is twice stronger than her human form. Light armored Gnolls would be able to spot her coming but her speed would make it hard for them to intercept her. Kouko's Spirit hunter skill will be available in 5 more posts from this one (3/8).

Post by Mairwen Griffith on Dec 7, 2016 3:04:31 GMT -4
As his fractured soul took hold, Mairwen found it hard to pay attention to the words around him – Kouko’s request for support barely reached him as his song took flight; though he did pay attention to her movement. Well, he was in no state to act as a shield or anything, especially with this lyric on his lips, but he wasn’t about to stand behind her either. Thankfully, in the meantime, his other comrades seemed a bit more proactive; as that marvellous swordsman lashed out ahead – with some magic words of her own, too? Ah, he wasn’t any good with any other languages, unfortunately. He wasn’t sure why she was going to try and fight on the rooftops… oh! How impressive! His heart fluttered a bit… w-wow, girls were amazing these days, weren’t they?
Of course, he couldn’t get too excited with the knowledge that there was a witch around; and one who just used a very particular nickname that he was getting very, very sick of. A certain twang of irritation flickered through his singing voice for a word or two upon hearing Aislin’s attention, but Mairwen didn’t let anything more affect his song courtesy of the troublesome lady. Though, if she was going to continue talking like that even in the midst of this pressure, there was no way she was going to get him get along with her own plans! Mairwen was much more comfortable fighting on his own, thanks… maybe the witch ought to worry more about having her tongue cut out than tossing about whimsical insults to her own team! Girls were unbelievable these days, weren’t they?
”Suddenly, I feel alive; we can cross this great divide! In a flash, what was darkness, turns to light! Eternally, we will be, in each other's memory; Racing towards… our one true destiny!”
While his song continued and Anna hit her foes like a wrecking ball, Mairwen tried to slightly keep pace with his comrades; dancing steps following the elf’s lead just slightly – he couldn’t exactly charge in himself while singing, and trying to concentrate enough to use his bow in the midst of his song would be just about impossible. But, despite that, he somehow earned some thanks for his non-existent cover… err, well, maybe his song kept the enemy busy? No one else seemed to care for it, anyway. Which was probably for the better! Then, that cat went zipping past him… huh? The pat on the head was definitely unexpected; and not particularly appreciated in the midst of a fight given his oh-so sensitive ears; but more unexpected was… fox? She sounded quite handsome now, didn’t she? Mairwen wasn’t sure if he started blushing from the newfound sight or from having his ears messed with, but… girls were… something these days…
