On Eternal Magica we decided to take a slightly different approach to the class system most fantasy settings tend to use. Instead of picking a predetermined "Class", players instead pick a "Role" for their Characters. The Roles define how your character and what attitude as well as in what direction their abilities are used. While Classes are player made to personalize and tailor your character to best suit the role you assigned them.
In essence, you choose from one of the following four roles and then create a class, picking the equipment, abilities or spells that help your character perform in that role.
In essence, you choose from one of the following four roles and then create a class, picking the equipment, abilities or spells that help your character perform in that role.
Roles | Description | Examples |
Vanguard | Usually Fighters who specialize in possessing great endurance and resilience. They work as "Tanks" capable of standing their ground against any opponent. On groups they are the first to meet the enemy on melee and the last to leave combat. Their focus tends to be defense over offense, using might or magic to achieve this purpose. | Knights, Paladins, Guardians, Magic Knights are the most common examples. |
Jack of All Trades | The role for those who can do a bit of everything. They are self sufficient but not specialized, capable of acting as supplements and able to fill some positions or roles in a group to some degrees. They are fighters and magic users that can work as "Off Tanks" balancing between defense and offense in combat. But overall weaker than Vanguards or Slayers on their respective areas. | Rangers, Warriors, Thieves, Samurai, Shamans and Summoners are some examples. |
Support | On groups they are the backbone for any Party. As the name indicates, they posses abilities and powers best suited for working with others. They can have skills to heal and strengthen allies, to weakening and confusing enemies. Whether they use magical abilities or traps and poisons, they are vital for increasing the potential of their allies and weakening their enemies. | Trappers, Priests, Enchanters, Bards, Witches commonly take a support role. |
Slayer | The damage dealers, those who are best suited for as the name indicates slaying. Fighters and Magic Users whose talents are focused on offensive powers and abilities, they may not be the sturdiest but their skills are best suited for removing threats with great efficiency. | Assassins, Wizards, Weapon Masters, Berserkers, Hunters, Magic Archers are common classes able to DPS |
Note: Each character is different, even if they share the same role and both share the same class, their abilities and equipment can be different. Example you could have a Warrior in the Slayer role that uses dual axes and another person plays a warrior in the Vanguard role who prefers to use shield and mace with skills to fight defensively.
