RACES
Within the world of Eternal Magica there are a multitude of species, many which are sentient but very few are civilized. However, only three of these races are playable, as they are the ones recognized as citizens of the realm of Aurelia. The first are humans, while the second can be considered a collection of mix blooded humans, called Hybrids due to the wide variations of ancestries they possess. The third are Pure Breeds which basically cover civilized none-human races such as Dwarfs, Elves or Gnomes. Important Note: Since in Eternal Magica we believe in building the world as we go, we take a loose approach to races and custom species. So to keep things simple we divided the races in 3 groups. Humans are pretty standard but with Pure Breeds and Hybrids you can get a lot of variations. Since we don't define individual species don't be afraid to make your own race or use one from standard fantasy. You! define your race or sub-race and once your character is approved we'll add it to a list with a brief description for others player to see and consider using. Humans The dominant and the most widespread race within the Empire. As varied in looks as they are in character, hardy and resourceful. Humans aren't the strongest species to roam the lands, but their capacity for development has made them the most widespread and successful race on the continent. They have slowly but steadily settled in many lands and have driven back threat after threat. Humans don't have any really special characteristics, some are stronger, while others smaller, some uncommonly are born with magical potential while others are born with sharp instincts. Also in rare circumstances some humans are able to mingle with other races, producing a Hybrid. Pure Breeds Pure Breeds is the general name given to other sentient races that are somewhat similar to humans. They have their own societies and their own traditions but coexist with humanity. Pure Breeds are allowed to live in the empire but they tend to live with their own, though some cities are annexed or have been conquered long ago by the empire. Though there are sentient races the monstrous kinds aren't generally accepted or allowed to live freely within the Empire. So the general view on Pure Breeds is that the more humanoid and the more civilized the species is they are less likely to be prejudiced. However, species known for being monstrous or that don't have a solid society are treated as monsters and hunted like such. Examples: Elves, Dwarfs, Gnomes, lizardmen, ect. Notes: 1.Species like Dragons, Lamias, Demons or other commonly portrayed as man eating or outright monstrous aren't included in the Pure Breeds. 2. A Pure Breeds initial passive must be related to their Race.Hybrids Hybrids are the rare product of Humans intertwining with another species. They are the minority and their chances of surviving infancy are low. However, they aren't rare just uncommon. There is only two kinds of Hybrids, those that are the product of actual breeding and those that were human but were changed or transformed by an external force. Hybrids possess diluted traits of their inhuman parentage and aside from possessing unusual appearances, they also have rare abilities from their ancestry. Mix Breeds: The most common type of Hybrid. The Mix Breeds are the children of a human and an inhuman parent. Therefore there are countless types, from those with bestial, divine, spiritual or monstrous heritage. The most common are often called Beast Kind, which are human that possess animal traits (such as ears and tails) while others have more magical blood showing elven like appearances or even dwarven like. Within the Empire, the view on Mix Breeds tends to be tempered, they aren't treated as second class citizens in the eyes of the law but is not unheard that some humans are wary of Mix Breeds and that cases of discrimination occur, specially to those that are less human looking. Examples: Cat Girls, Half-Beasts, Half-Elementals, Half-Giants.Changeling: The rarer kind of hybrid, rather than born they are regular humans that becomes cursed, possessed or the host for a spirit. In these cases a Human becomes a changeling, obtaining abilities that come with conditions. Afflictions like vampirism or lycanthropy are the most common kinds, though there are cases that powerful spirits come to reside in a person (either possessing them or being sealed into them) that begin to change the host gradually. Changelings for the most part are treated as social outcasts, and those that do not have control of their affliction can become hunted, by either the population or Changeling Hunters. Causing Changelings to usually stay away from population centers. Note: A Changeling's must have a condition or compulsion. Examples: Vampires, Shikigami, Werewolfs, ect.

Player Added Races Here you can find any race or subspecies created by players. You are free to use them, though contacting the creator is always polite. Felines:While originally lacking a title for their race, the feline race covers a range of humanoids with cat-like features across Velen. Though they generally resemble regular humans apart from their ears, tails and other feline features, they do tend to be slightly shorter on the whole; though their physiques, skin tones, and fur patterns and colours vary significantly depending on their ancestry. Originally, the feline race lived in small, sparsely scattered communities across a range of environments, but didn’t develop much in the way of technology or culture, as there are one of the younger sentient races of the world. However, with the advent of the Empire of Ende’s reign they have happily integrated into contemporary society; being eager to learn about other cultures and make the most of all the technology suddenly on offer to them. While generally well-liked by humans due to their similar natures, the feline race tends to be looked down upon by other races due to their lack of unique culture and their willingness to be assimilated into overall society rather than standing on their own like elves or dwarves. This attitude isn’t quite correct, however; as while the race lacks any widely shared culture or religion they are strong believers in oral tradition – most felines hold their families’ stories in high regard, and can often recite their histories across several centuries through the tales they’ve been told. Similarly, they hold their own style of religion in the form of personal or tribal superstitions which vary greatly between individuals, though these tend to be rather trivial or superficial in nature. Added By: Tulf ElvesA long lived humanoid species, easily distinguished by their pointy ears that vary on size. Elves are one of the species with a multitude of subspecies due to their close relationship to nature, as such their skin tones and sizes may differ from region to region and the kind of Elf. They also have a propensity for elevating their culture over others, perhaps due to their long lives spans. Due to a close relationship with the forces of nature, most elves have an affinity for magic and an elf without any drop of magical potential are very uncommon. Regular Elves or also sometimes called High Elves are the most populous of Elvenkinds. They make their homes in forests turned to cities and each city acts like it's own sovereign state that for the most rarely interact with each other. Only the most dire of circumstances is enough to move the Elven city states to rally together. High Elves rarely leave their forests and are often considered aloof and uncaring when interacting with the younger races, their refine culture also makes them seem more delicate and pacifistic than they are. However, High Elves have a long martial history and are the founders of many deadly combat arts, and it is not commonly known that all elves do practice and refine a combat art for decades. Culturally they are varied, each city state has it's own dispositions and as such the alignment of High Elves is up to the individual, most however, seem to be of neutral alignments and outright evil elves are not commonly seen yet do exist. Added by: Kozeph Dark ElvesA sub-race of regular elves. Dark Elves, not to be confused with the subterranean Dark Elves also known as Drow, are a species of Swamp and Bog dwelling elves that prefer a solitary life style out of a desire to pursue their own desires unfettered. Freedom tends to be paramount to their culture, which often leads them towards chaotic alignments, however some Dark Elves find freedom in going against the norm and following, at the very least, a personal code. They can't really be said to have a universal culture, other than one that deeply appreciates pleasure and luxury, something they can all agree on on the rare occasion they decide to form communal groups together. Individuality is always paramount in a Dark Elves mind, which can lead them to be driven and highly motivated in perfecting personal skills, but cam also lead to extremely selfish egotism. Their solitary nature tends to perpetuate this trait as, frequently, the only contact with another Dark Elf a Dark Elf may have at birth is their own parent(s) or rarely coming across another member of their own race who has been raised to be individualistic. They don't often enjoy society or heavily advanced civilization, but can appreciate the luxury that artifice and the refining of a craft by a community can bring. They have no problem interacting or trading with other races, they'd usually rather not be constrained by their rules or standards, though. Dark Elves tend to be skilled in magic, but it favors towards more primal or druidic kinds than the magic of other races, often relating to herbs and compounds found in their preferred habitat of bogs and swamps. The Moon can also be tied to their magic as it has a unique relationship with their race, many Dark Elves having climbing cravings of one sort or another as the Moon waxes which then fall again as the moon waves. Their bog dwelling leads them to prefer dark, humid environments, though heat preferences can very. They tend to have dark hair, pale skin, and eyes in a variety of shades, usually seeming unnatural to other races. Other specific traits (such as fashion) tend to very from individual to individual with how they feel about civilization, the options it allows people, and what exactly they see as freedom. Very rarely will anyone meet two Dark Elves who seem too terribly similar, and one Dark Elf would feel mortified meeting anything close to their twin or too similar to them. Added by: Yams Ogres - OniOgres, or more specifically the sub-species called Oni, are a race of gigantic humanoids. Different from other members of their species, Oni possess a sophisticated culture, based around a caste system, wherein they exist as either Knights, Workers or Rulers. The largest number of Oni are in the working caste and known for their skillful smithing work, large greens and animal breeding grounds. The Knight caste is essentially a mixture between military and police force, as it patrols the Oni Kingdom's borders incessantly and with... scrutiny, as the species tends to be fairly xenophobic and self-sufficient. Lastly, the ruling class consists of especially fat individuals, which tend to function as both merchants, as well as large scale land-owners, wherein the King of the Oni is essentially the "most successful" merchant, for periods of four years. Alas, going by the profits he can actually bring the country, this reign can be extended indefinitely. Ogres age about as quickly as humans, although their bodies fall apart only within the last two years of their life in an extremely fast, degenerative process. Until then, they remain fairly young looking, the oldest looks being around late thirties. All Oni possess a single horn and incredibly tough skin, making them natural physical labour forces and fighters. Overall, they are a sociable, yet judgmental species that puts a lot of emphasis on cultural norms and prestige. Financial loss, is considered almost as bad as dishonour, although less so if one is within the militant Knight Class, as their prestige is moreso result and deed dependant. Inactive, or weak Knights will never truly enjoy recognition or power among their people. Added By: Verdi
