"If I didn't need the coins right now..." Early in the morning, Sachiko was leaning against a wall of the city, just outside the gates. She was frowning and already feeling irritated by the lack of description given for this job. In theory, it was a pretty simple task... To carry the goods from point A to point B, Sachiko understood that pretty well and she didn't really care about the dangers of the road. Some guards tried to scare her off but just a look at her eyes was enough to scare them away. Additionally, this task was a party task so she was supposed to meet with a few others before she could even get a move out of the meeting spot.
"I wonder what kind of people I'll be meeting with" Sachiko looked up to the sky, the sun have yet to make its appearance past the mountains that were barely visible in the horizon. There were some clouds in the sky as well and the wind was cold, just as she liked it. "It also looks like it's gonna be a sunny day... good" Her eyes then turned to the gates. She was now getting slightly desperate but she was also forgetting that she was at least 1 hour earlier than the time set for the meeting point.
"..." Sachiko sighed, there was no point in getting mad so early in the morning. She then decided to sit down with her back against the wall and her arms hugging her legs. The package that her party needed to deliver was at a side next to her and hopefully she wouldn't be hard to spot given the meeting spot was set to be right next to the gates.

There were some mornings that it was just impossible to be diligent. This morning was one as such for Neal. He had arrived to Velen a day ago and traveling exhaustion took it's tool. However, Neal was productive and found an "errand". Since the only inn in town was expensive he was short on coin and well this job killed two birds with one stone. He couldn't ask for better.
Neal had his hood pulled back so his brown hair and green eyes were visible. At his side was his precious magical tome. Neal yawned as he approached the meeting point, he wanted to arrive earlier but well he slept through most of the morning so now arriving at the appointed hour was the only thing he could do. He looked around, there were just a group of sleepy looking guards eating breakfast. Oh there was also a fox like Hybrid girl sitting, she was armed and at her side was a package.
As he understood it, Neal was going to work with two others. That Hybrid must be one of them. He walked closer and with an unchanging expression and zero hesitance he said. "Morning, I see you got the package good" his green eyes lingered on the small box. Curiosity sinked in but obviously Neal wouldn't screw up his first job just like this. Neal moved to the wall and rested his back against it.
"I'm going to guess they put you in charge, right?" He glanced at the Hybrid. Neal's tone was cordial albeit a bit neutral.

While new to Hyo Shin, being the wanderer he was Kai was used to things like. There was always someone somewhere willing to pay good coin for help, and this was certainly no exception. Needing to wake up early in the morning was a wise idea for safe couriering, as most low lives operated in the darkness, so this would be the time they whisked away to bed. Still, if they were being paid for the job, that meant there would be some danger involved. Walking towards the fox girl and the hooded man, the wanderer approaches silent and unconcerned. Hm, it seems I'm not the first one here, funny I was certain I would be given I came earlier then intended, but it seems the others here had the same idea, hm maybe these two I've been paired up with won't be completely useless. Still, can't be too sure of that, so it's better I ascertain they can handle in a fight. Before, I do so I need to confirm these are the proper two. "Are you two the ones who also took the job to deliver the package?" |

The sound of someone approaching her made her ears twitch, they were walking slowly towards her so she assumed it was either someone about to bug her or a guard asking her about the package. She was wrong. A rather good looking guy approached her asking her about the package, he seemed mysterious and that peeked her curiosity a bit but a "cool" girl cannot show interest at all. There was also the pressure of getting the mission done as soon as possible so she could get the coin needed for the rent...
"Seriously... if I didn't need the coin right now..." Sachiko just sighed and let go of the thought, she then blinked looking at the guy near to her and with her right hand around the package and her left one on her weapons she replied "Yes, the package is fine and I can carry it on my back as well if needed be-" but right before she could continue the guy spoke once again, this time with words she had never heard before.
"Me? In charge? Like having people taking me seriously? Really?!" Sachiko wanted to yell out of happiness very badly in the inside but in the outside she just assented with her head to his words. Still, she needed to clear that one out... just a little bit "Yes, but there is no need for formalities alright?" Holding herself sure was hard, more in front of him but at least that should keep things "clear" for a little bit... "Then I'll find a way to have him invite me for a drink~ hehe!".
Right after that short exchange of words another new figure arrived the place. Unlike the first guy, this one seemed more serious. Something about him gave Sachiko a bad idea of him and she would be making sure to keep her distance from him. As long as they get the job done, nothing else matters right? They're here for the money like her so everything should be alright. Sachiko replied to him with a reassuring voice "Yes, you two arrived almost at the same time", she then stood up from her place and cleaned her legs before picking the package and carrying it on her right shoulder.
"My name is Sachiko, I am a Blade Dancer, your reliable Vanguard and your guide. Thanks for taking the job with me." A polite introduction was in order, of course and hopefully, to make her look as cool as she pictured it in her head.

Neal's opinion on the girl didn't change much. For now he decided she seemed capable if somewhat nonchalant. It made it hard for him to figure out her personality but well he preferred the quiet types than the overly talkative. "Sounds good to me." Neal shrugged his shoulders and showed the girl a soft smile. He could deal with not being formal.
Then their other companion arrived. Good, at least both are punctual. Neal thought. He also seemed like a serious fellow, which suited Neal fine as well. Though his clothes were a bit exotic he seemed dependable. Inwardly, the ambitious mage considered that these two might actually be worth a shot at getting to know. Well it all depended on how their errand turned out. From what little knew of the area, the place they were suppose to go was fairly dangerous.
Because of this, he decided to commit their names to his memory.
"You can call me Neal. I'm a mage and can do a little of everything." Neal pulled from his under his cloak the worn and old tome. He didn't make his introduction as polite but well it was educated enough he figured. He quickly hid his tome again under the safety of his cloak. "I'm new to the area, so I'll trust your judgement Sachiko. But you can rely on my spells."
With his introduction out of the way, he glanced at the raven haired man. Neal was eager to get the introductions out of the way, he wanted to get this errand finished quickly.

Before we begin we need a plan. As I ask my question to the others at designated location, the fox girl responds that we both arrived nearly at the same time. She then picks up the package we are ordered to guard before giving us her name, Sachiko, and her class, Blade Dancer, and role Vanguard. A Blade Dancer, eh? Impressive, but just because she's skilled with a sword, it seems her lack of planning and foresight or overconfidence is getting the better of her, as she intends to be the one who holds on to the goods we've agreed to protect. "..." I wait for the other person present to introduce himself, before giving my opinion. The man introduces himself as Neal, a mage who can do a little bit of everything. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders as far as I can tell, but he like me seems to be the cautious sort. I know from myself those are the type of people you need to be the most wary of. Neal then tells Sachiko, he'll trust her judgment, and that his spells can be relied on. At this point, I finally decide to step in to the conversation and say my piece. "Sachiko, huh? Back when I was studying under my sensei, I heard about the time and effort that goes into learning the ways of the blade that a Blade Dancer strives for..." At this point, reach to my own katana and pull it out, glancing in her direction with my serious eyes. "I will concede up front, that if you are what you say you are, your skill with a blade surpasses my own. But,... even if you are that skilled with a blade, it's foolish to have our front line hold on to the package we are assigned to protect." I then put my katana down and face the mage Neal. "Neal, being that you're a mage, I believe the package is best left in your care. You can stay a safe enough distance away from the heat of things and still provide assistance. On top of that that heavy cloak you're wearing can help conceal the package, if only just a bit." I turn toward Sachiko again, before continuing. "I'll admit, I'm also rather new to this place of Hyo Shin, so I don't doubt your ability to lead the way, Sachiko, but as wanderer who has done this type of work before across the land, we need to make sure we have a solid plan before heading out, otherwise the mission will end in failure." I give them my peace about making sure we're prepared before finally introducing myself. "The name's Kai, I've already shown you I carry a blade, like Sachiko does, but also happen to deal in the art of spells like Neal. My class... is that of the Hex Blade, the dealer of death to all that cross my path and... these eyes, provided you're in way. Leave the killing of those that get in our way to me." |

"Huuuuh?!" Sachiko was getting irritated by Kai's words, the more he continued the more he pissed her off "Who does HE think he is? Giving orders all around and speaking as if he was the leader?" That was enough, she would have a word with him whether he liked it or not... Although if he didn't like it then he would meet the worst side of Sachiko.
"Excuse me? Who are you?" Said Sachiko while glaring at Kai, she was irritated already and the tone of her voice was furious. She was not yelling, there was no need to make it public but just the right tone to make clear what she wanted to say "Kai huh? Listen, I am the one in charge here and I am the one in charge of the delivery so this is why I am holding onto the package" She then eyed Neal, trying not to lose herself into the discussion "You cannot simply come in and order people around at will, Not only that but you're the last one to arrive and on top of that you don't even suggest anything" She sighed, then let her hand rest on her Katana, she was now being completely serious and would charge at Kai at any moment if he triggered it.
"I dare you to order me again, do it and I'll slit that throat of yours in one swing of my sword" At this point, Sachiko was really mad at Kai. Even if nothing happened she wouldn't be treating him now as an ally at all. Neal was fine, they were sharing thoughts at the start which was fine with her but this guy... She really wanted to kill him.
"I'll tell you what's Foolish, Foolish is to come here, order us around and give little information about yourself as you do so" She then took her sword out adopting one of her combat stances "If you don't like the way we'll work things around here then you're not fit for the job and you might as well leave right now." The air around Sachi seemed heavier now, her combat stance was ready and she was prepared to attack Kai or defend herself against him if he were to attack her. But of course, she was not gonna be dumb enough to make the first move, given the guards that are just close enough to them to witness and hear everything. Her words were also carefully chosen due this regard giving Kai little options if he were to go hostile.

Neal eyed Kai as he spoke. The mage inner workings made him realize soon enough, they were in a way both similar and that was a dangerous thing. Not that Neal had any personal problems with Kai, however, learning that he was a Hex Blade did make Neal take his companion into consideration. The little he knew of them was enough for Neal to take him into consideration as someone dangerous, the fact that they may be like minded even more so. However, there was a vast difference between the too. Whether Kai was good at reading people or he was unafraid of clashing with them was something for Neal to discover still. Neal Fowke was a man who sought to take the best advantage out of people and for the most part that meant rather than clash he tried to be cooperative as one of his tools of manipulation. So, whether Kai was aware of the hot-hotheadedness of their other companion and how she would react to his comments was something to be analyzed still.
Regardless, Neal remained unfaced and undisturbed by the shift in tone of the conversation. He did internally sigh, they hadn't even begun their journey and they swordsmen were clashing. Truthfully, Neal did not understand the warrior's pride. Still he decided to attempt to diffuse the situation.
"Enough, this bickering get's us nowhere, save the castle dungeons." Neal spoke, his tone was stronger than usual but not loud nor agitated. He crossed his arms and shifting his gaze towards Kai. "I don't claim to understand a swordsman pride, but Sachiko is right. She was entrusted with the package and questioning her like this is immature." He paused for a moment, then turned his attention to the fox girl. "However, Kai does have a point Sachiko. I don't question your skills, if you were hired first and entrusted with the package then you have proven yourself already. But in the event we encounter bandits or monsters, do you think you can protect us, the package and yourself in a fight at the same time? Would it not be better to leave the package in my care as I am the least likely to engage in melee with an enemy?" He questioned her. "If the package gets damaged, then we lose our reward and if you are at the front it's easier however unlikely that the package will be in more danger."
Neal tapped his feet and then exhaled, losing interest. "Regardless, solve your problems now. The longer we stand around, the later we'll be and I don't fancy sleeping in this wilderness." He turned his gaze at the frontier of Velen...

It doesn't matter what you think of me, so long as the mission is successful. As I spoke it was clear the Sachiko was getting irritated at the criticism. In response to my words, she starts off by questioning my position in suggesting a better plan of action. "I'm just someone who wants to get paid, and see this mission completed in order to have that happen." It's at this point, she explodes going so far as to threaten to slit my throat if I tell her what to do again. "hmhmhmhahahahaHAHAHA!" I can only meet her words with an outburst of laughter. While, I take her treat as a swordswomen seriously, if she thinks she can get past my magic and cursing ability, she really is foolish. As then says it's foolish of me to act as I did, taking a combat stance, and saying that if I don't like the way things are I should leave.
"I agree, there is one among us who should leave. But... it's the one pointing there blade ready to attack one they've signed on to do a mission with. If however, you are so bold as to try and take my head, I welcome the opportunity for you to try... but don't blame me when you end up a corpse..."
At this point Neil interjects, saying that this bickering is getting us nowhere. At this point, I let out a sigh, and sheath my blade. He has a point, the only thing that matters right now is the mission. He then turns and faces me, and says that it was immature of me to question her.
"Apologies, I tend not to be the trusting sort, so I like to make sure those I'm paired up with are up to the task. I can tell... you seem the type of person as well. No matter, I really don't what either of you two opinion of me is, so long as the mission is successful."
He then turns toward Sachiko, and agrees with what I just said about the package, validating that I was correct all along in my judgments. It seems he's getting impatient of waiting around here, and I can't say I don't disagree.
"I have no quarrel with anyone unless they seek it. Now, if we're ready to leave lets get on with it."
At this point, my blade is sheathed, but my eyes are still on Sachiko, her outburst and irrationality makes her a wild card, but even if my sword wasn't drawn, I still had my magic to use for a counter-attack, if it came to that.
FootNotes
Fun fact, I'll take any opportunity I can to put in the Sasuke laugh. |

The guy in front of her had a disgusting laugh, it was only helping her boiling up her blood more. Sachiko was mad but it was only showing in her face with a death glare, however Neal came in to interrupt the two of them. He was right in his words, she just got the idea that she was being ordered around and she didn't like that at all, plus his attitude was something she couldn't really stand. She then let her breath out and saved her sword lowering her guard a bit just letting her passive take over for a bit.
As Neal continued speaking she couldn't help but blush and feel embarrassed, the whole time she thought she was being cool at how she handled the situation but that was not the case. She was really embarrassed and couldn't even reply back to him, less look at him in the face. Was it because she thought he was handsome? Sachi was really losing it and she didn't want to be seen that way, not by either of them at least. She quickly turned from them and threw the heavy package in Neal's direction as if it wasn't heavy at all. To someone without physical training or not used to carrying heavy stuffs, the power of the throw plus the package would definitely knock them down on the floor.
"F-fine! Just drop it already! I don't care anymore!...Let's just go already! seriously..." And ignoring whatever else happened with the package or her partners she started to walk her way to their destination without looking back anymore.
