[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]PERSONALITY & Appearance
[attr="class","hopelovetop"]
Appearance: Marigold does not cut the most intimidating figure, standing at a mere five feet and a single inch. Not that she tries to be intimidating at all, with her long platinum blond hair tied into extravagant curls and the smile that she freely shares. If she had a problem with her image, it would be that she hardly looks the part of a gravekeeper; often it is only her black regalia tells people of her position. Even then, all the pink frilly liberties she had taken with her robes takes away from the effect. Not that she cares. Those that come into physical contact with her note notice that her sickly pale skin emits an unnatural chill, though few mention this in front of her purple eyes. Her voice matches her appearance, often coming out in pitched squeals when she gets excited, which is to say, all the time. [break][break]
That being said, the sable wisp of cloth floating around her and the over-sized blade hanging from a strap across her shoulder serve as warning to those that would underestimate the girl. [break]
[break]Personality: Contrary to what most people think, gravekeepers are not necessarily a dour bunch despite the somber nature of their work. The teachings of Norn actually encourage the celebration of life. Marigold takes these teachings to heart, facing life with a smile, no matter what it brings. This naturally makes her seem a bit childish, but Marigold is actually quite the realist. She chooses to remain smiling in the face of the most insurmountable odds, maintaining that one must never loose hope. Of course, her faith in something beyond death helps her maintain a cheerful disposition.[break][break]
That is not to say she knows when to be serious and tends to her responsibilities with utmost respect; despite what some may say. However it would be a lie to say that she is as responsible with all aspects of her life. She has utmost difficulty sitting still for long, which is part of the reason she wanted to leave home. Whenever possible she would surround herself with people, even if she doesn't communicate with them directly, as she enjoys the energy of crowds and finds the voices of other people comforting. On the other hand, she is willing to comfort others in their time of need as well[break][break]
Outside her religious responsibilities, she tends to avoid any serious matters and tries to stay as far away from such things as much as possible. Marigold also tends to keep her personal life separate from her public image as a priestess of Norn; she would comfort a dying stranger, but she would passionately insist that a friend stay alive. In the end, she knows what role she must play, but does not suffer needlessly to do so.[break]
[break]Hobbies: Praying, wood-carving, digging graves, exploring.[break]
Likes: Cake, rain, undead.[break]
Dislikes: Silence, disrespecting the dead, undead.[break]

[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]BIOGRAPHY
[attr="class","hopelovetop"]
Given that the priesthood of Norn is often passed on from parent to child, some jest that gravekeepers are born in a crypt, with Marigold this is far more than a joke. She was born two months early, while her mother, a priestess of Norn was accompanying her father to cleanse a tomb, and one thing led to another. It was supposed to be a short and simply task, almost routine. Luckily, the rest of their party had actually prepared for her birth, partly in jest. Still, her parents seem to enjoy retelling the story when their daughter gets impatient, much to her chagrin.[break][break]
While Marigold may be embarrassed by the circumstances behind her birth, many have whispered that it may have been the source of her many gifts - or oddities to some. Whatever the case, the girl seemed to have a strong connection to her faith. Even during training, she would often perform equal to someone who was her senior. Her connection to her Burial Shroud, in particular, caught the attention of the senior members of the cult. However, aside from her apparently natural talent with the rites, the girl was not particularly noteworthy. At least in the eyes of the public, but her peers often whispered rumors about her misadventures in the surrounding countryside.[break][break]
To most, she seemed happy with being born into the priesthood, but there were times where she would disappear for several days. Marigold would always return unharmed, of course you could never be sure. As such, her mother was always concerned, on the other hand, her father would always have a knowing smile on his face. Still, up until her seventeenth birthday, she seemed to have been content with her lot in life. It wasn't too far from the truth, but something bothered Marigold every time her father would leave on an adventure with his party and it was obvious that the quiet contemplation of life was not quite her cup of tea.[break][break]
When the Imperial decree to explore the frontier was issued, it was decided that a temple to Norn should be raised near Hyo Shin. Seeing the opportunity to serve her faith and quench her wanderlust at the same time, Marigold volunteered to be among the first to tend to the faithful out in the west. While she has little practical training, Thirteen has protected her well enough, and the gifts of Norn seem to translate quite well into surviving the dangers of the frontier.

Class Description: Gravekeepers are what most people call the devotees of Norn, a god of death and renewal. They are known to tend to many simple tasks such as funerals and caring for the sick. However, one of their main tasks are to cleanse the undead and protect the living - as none should face Norn before their time. While few of their number are actively militant, many can use their Burial Shroud as both a sword and a shield and their close relation to death gives them a surprising resilience to physical injury.[break]

While few of their number are actively militant, many can use their Burial Shroud as both a sword and a shield and their close relation to death gives them a surprising resilience to physical injury.[break]
[break]Passives:
- At Death's Door :: With such a close affinity to death, Marigold has developed characteristics that would be typical of the undead. Most prominently, she is highly resilient to physical damage - her body will suffer injury as much as another being, but will function properly through anything short of lethal injuries. Any magical effects will typically bypass her unnatural resilience. In addition, she is highly resistant to disease and mindless undead have a tendency to ignore her - she may even control weaker willed undead with a measure of effort. On the other hand, healing spells do not affect her as well as it does others.[break]
Class Skills:
- Burial Shroud :: All gravekeepers are served by a small piece of their god, a servant in the form of an animated mass of tattered cloth. Even among them, however, Marigold has an unnaturally close connection with her Burial Shroud. While others are serve as an extra pair of arms, her own Shroud - whom she affectionately calls Thirteen - acts like a living shield and is quite able to wield the sword its master carries with brutal effect. [break]
While wielding a weapon, Thirteen can only effectively shield its master once every three posts - of course, it can still use the sword to parry. If it focuses on defense, it cannot actively attack. - Gate of Renewal :: A religious ritual that involves a knife, a casket and their own heart. Typically, Marigold will lock herself up somewhere private for several hours and emerge fully healed of all wounds and other afflictions. A proper ritual requires a lot of concentration, but during an utmost emergency, she can perform it without the proper preparation. If used during a mission, the caster is rendered immobile and helpless for a post, after those posts however, all her wounds are healed as per a normal ritual. [break]
Using this during a mission is disrespectful to her god and Marigold is unwilling, if not unable, to use it more than once in a single mission. - Death Masque :: When push comes to shove, Marigold can channel the entropic energies of her Burial Shroud through her own body. The Shroud seemingly absorbs her physical form and a stylized skull mask forms amidst the mass of tattered cloth - giving her the appearance of the reaper as it appears in some legends. In this form she is able to move as her Shroud does, with unnatural agility and grace, and her touch becomes unbearably cold to the point that her victims find themselves hurt and drained of strength.[break]
This form lasts for three posts and has a cooldown of six posts.
General Skills:
- Funeral Rites :: All acolytes are taught the basic rites for a funeral, however there serve as the basis for more complex rituals that allow a gravekeeper to banish the undead. After preparing for at least three turns, Marigold can cleanse any undead caught within the ritual area. The effect does not affect all targets in the same way, and some more powerful undead resist the attempts of a rite carried out by a novice.
[break]Equipment[break]
[break]Armor:[break]
- Gravekeepers Regalia :: Light :: E :: Technically religious garments worn by the clergy of Norn, but they are given a lot of leeway with the specifics. It's hard to find two gravekeepers wearing the same thing.
- Accesory :: Locked
- Accesory :: Locked
Weapons:[break]
- Memento :: Sword :: E :: A plain looking sword, slightly shorter than an average claymore. It is almost too large for her to wield properly and she can barely swing it, however her Burial Shroud can wield it with some skill. Marigold carries it around with the help of a strap over her shoulder.
- Weapon Name :: Type :: Tier Quality :: Brief Description[break]
