It truly was a gentle evening, or as close to ‘gentle’ as one could get in a tavern – the blanket of rain outside no doubt dissuaded many from the building, but there was still a decent handful of denizens, predominantly from the nearby inn. The usual revelry surrounding the after-dinner crowd had died off somewhat, leaving just the regulars and the quieter or more composed of the other customers; with the scent of finer drinks lingering the air in place of the staple beers that took the forefront in the rush hours. While hardly a tavern known for being upper-class, for now the Deadman’s tavern could be said to have certain air of dignity to it. Amidst the stray merchants, gamblers, and the occasional off-duty adventurers; a face framed by sunny blonde hair shone through. Though still weighed down by her travelling garb, the lady certainly held herself with a noble composure… as well as a sense of warming satisfaction that practically dripped off of her frame. She’d had an enjoyable night… well, perhaps the term was twisted when it came from a tongue like hers, but it had certainly been productive. Settling down at one of the corner booths of the tavern’s second floor, Natasha relished her state with a sigh of pleasure. It’d been a while since she’d gotten to enjoy a hearty meal, and having dessert like this was something she could never argue with. Properly revealed in her white blouse and black ankle-length skirt once more, she felt as regal as she always wished to be, if only over something as trivial as a fine meal. In just a minute, a small sack of coin fell upon the first floor’s counter – not a surprise to the staff given the larger groups that came through, but the request that came with it was a bit more curious. ”I’ve given you my order, but… for tonight, I have something else on my mind. A round on me for all these shy souls, please.” mused the lady idly, adding it as if it were a well-considered afterthought, ”A toast from Natasha, for anyone who asks; but to anyone who’s happy with just a drink – well, that says enough for me.” Inwardly, it felt a bit nice to be playing so nice… but truth be told, the witch’s intentions were certainly on the other side of that fence. No, well… that was perhaps too harsh on herself. For now, she’d just call it atonement. Money did not come easy, but that was precisely why Natasha was fine with letting coin that did flow with ease disappear with just as much fanfare – a good lesson to anyone else who brought something more than the succulence of life with them when they went hassling a witch. Either way, the blonde was going to take her fill… and more, too. Proud and haughty, she finally cuddled up in her booth; eager both to indulge in a strong scotch and whomever of interest ended up her way. Networking, of course… or, maybe just hunting someone sweet-hearted enough for her to tease. Reclining in the booth with greedy satisfaction, the plush blonde waited for her meal… be it her order, a charming soul, or even just a show. She’d met some colourful characters already, so perhaps her evening would be interrupted by something more enjoyable than someone cute falling into her web. Oh, but was there anything sweeter than that? Ah, well… she’d be eager to find out. An evening with a flower on her lap, or an evening amongst a newfound group of friends… or both! Even if it was just for one night, as it no doubt should be... it was lovely, even just being alone. Maybe - home was not so far away, for just an evening.

It was a relatively normal day in Hyo Shin, for Strum Brightblade, which for the uptight young man, wasn't as a pleasant a thing as one would expect. To him his duty as a Paladin was his life and duty, but in absence of fulfilling that duty he felt empty inside. While, there was no shortage of criminals and evildoers near by, at the moment they were keeping to themselves and not breaking any laws, thus the Paladin who followed the God of Laws could do nothing to call them out or threaten them. It was a sad situation he was in, in order to be fulfilled he needed an evil to defeat, but having an evil to defeat meant someone would get hurt... the paradox of it all caused Strum to wonder about the path he choose, thinking as he did so over a bottle. As he gets ready to order a drink he notices a girl very calmly get up and order a round of drinks on her... how generous... Strum very much wanted to believe in the goodness of her, but a doubt lingered in the back of his mind... In-trained in him was the ability to see the evil around him, so he could easily ascertain her motives by using it. But, ... a part of him, wanted to forget about that... at least for bit, for just a moment, he wouldn't be Strum Brightblade the Paladin of the God of Law, rather Strum Kentsberry, just the son of a simple farmer. Getting up out of his stool, he walks toward the woman who had so generously ordered drinks for everyone, and asks. "Cuse me, mam ay reckon this seat here ain't taken, mind if I take a seat and get a sense as to why you be so kind as to hand out these drinks. It is mighty appreciated mam, but uh... after staying in a town like this for a bit, a man gets a bit paranoid. This place ain't like the town near back home, all these adventurers trying to start out. I tell ya it wears a man down. Ah, forgive me, I reckon I never introduced myself, Strum, Strum Kentsberry, I'm just a simple farmer's boy." |

While certainly content to have just been left alone, the appearance of a visitor was most welcome – and quite the interesting one, too. Though she couldn’t say much for his looks, the weight of his steps gave her some hope that she had pleasant company… ah, and that twang to his tone! Her family might have had some scathing things to say about a ‘simple farmer’s boy’, but Natasha could definitely appreciate such a soul. Like warm honey… simple, perhaps even common, but sweet nonetheless. A gentle smile lit up the lady’s face as she glanced up at the new presence – she’d worried about earning some rowdy company, so this was quite a welcome offer. ”Ah, well, I got a bit of a bonus today, but I don’t like to walk around with too much money on me… as you say, in a town like this, a lady such as myself can be a bit… paranoid. Well, maybe it could be called a random act of kindness, too… but, I’d rather leave that up to other people.” mused Natasha, not seeming all that sure of her reasoning herself – or perhaps just trying to bait the boy on. Either would be fun, wouldn’t it? ”Mister Kentsberry, is it? Take a seat, if you’d like. I’m a bit new around here, all things considered, so I’d hardly object to the company.”Nodding towards the other end of the corner stall’s bench, the proud witch’s glassy eyes trained on Strum… she wasn’t really in the mood for causing trouble, but she couldn’t help but seem suspicious regardless. It was just a witch thing! ”So, it sounds like you’ve been here for a while, Mister Kentsberry. I can’t blame you for missing home, but… are the adventurers around here really that much trouble? I do know you get all kinds of odd sorts in those roles, but I would’ve thought they’d at least avoid troubling everyone else.”

Another day without luck at Hyo Shin for Kouko. The Tavern was the last place she would be but given the circumstances of her misfortune so far it didn't seem like a bad idea. She needed a drink and a happy environment to forget about her responsibilities, besides, it's not like she goes out on her own so often so it shouldn't hurt. The Tavern was quite the place, people from the town and foreigners arrive here everyday for a drink. They would usually scream out their tales and share them with others and that was fine, as long as they kept their distance from her. Not long before she had arrived a waitress offered her a drink saying that it was a free round offered by a blonde lady that was just a few tables away from hers. Kouko couldn't help but tilt her head and look at both of them confused.
"Just milk... please" said Kouko with a soft voice, she was very bad with alcoholic drinks and this wouldn't be the day she screw it up. The waitress looked at her with a weird face but Kouko wouldn't give her an explanation either, she was not there to socialize in the first place.
"Just a few drinks and I'll head to my room" Kouko was slowly dozing off while waiting for her glass of milk to arrive. She was not really tired but her arms over the table felt really comfy for her as pillows to just let the chance go. She didn't really care if sleeping a bit in a Tavern was dangerous but she should be awake by the time the waitress arrive with her milk.
"I'll just rest my eyes for a bit..." And with that thought, Kouko leaned her head on her arms over the table and closed her eyes. At this point she was not sleeping but resting in place. She could still hear the rest of the people talking and that was just fine. For her, it was like getting into the conversations without necessarily being there. Life sure felt good for Kouko every time she closed her eyes anyways, she was now smiling with her eyes closed while waiting for the drink she ordered.

Post by Sachiko Sawamura on Oct 10, 2016 23:16:09 GMT -4
With her arms crossed and a clearly irritated look in her eyes, Sachiko was standing next to where her sister was laying down. The girl was careless enough to be nearly asleep on her table, not only that but walking into such a place by herself and not noticing the dirty looks some men were giving her "If you weren't my sister...". Sachiko then grabbed Kouko's tail and grinned "Even if you're in this form...DON'T YOU THINK THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO TAKE A NAP? YOU STUPID CAT!" pulling her tail hard waiting for her reaction.
Regardless of whatever thoughts people in the Tavern had about her, this was a problem between sisters. There was also the fact that no matter what, the older sister will always look out for the youngest one and that's what Sachi would be doing tonight. "First you make a whole show the moment you arrive looking for me, then crying on the streets for a job and now you're here falling asleep?" Sachiko was clearly still angry, anyone could tell by the way she was scolding the kitty in front of everybody. "I should totally write a letter to Papa and Mama, I'm sure they would LOVE to know that their kitty is out there in taverns drinking her heart out and sleeping on them, right?" Sachi had more to say at the moment but she decided not to. She gently let go off her sister's tail and waited there for an answer. A tavern was not a place for any of them anyways and after Kouko replies, she would be making sure to take the two of them out of the place.

Upon further inspection of the woman, it seems that she's blind. I can feel a sad feeling in my stomach about her condition, but sure she's used it by now, any pity sent her way would just insult her. Despite, not usually in engaging people in my native dialect often, I feel much more relaxed and at ease when doing so. I guess, sometimes you just can't take the boy out of the farm. As soon as she hears my question a smile comes across her face. Looking at her clothes, it seems she's well off, though one must be to hand out a round of drinks to everyone. She responds to my question, one filled with skepticism rather calmly, as says that in this town it's better not to carry too much coin on your person. She then gives me permission to sit down with her so we can continue begin a conversation. In response to this, I can only reply with my honest feelings. "It's sad that the state of this town has come to such, where people have to be afraid of law-breakers, but worry not I'm sure law and order will be restored in time, M'Lady, uh... mean Mam. heha..." It seems that hearing about her situation, my inner paladin couldn't help but butt in and reassure her, breaking my the tone I grew up with for the speech I was taught when learning my art. Clearing my throat I return to my more natural style of speech as I continue. "Apologize mam', I saw your nice clothes and heard your situation, and my job voice kicked in, might be hard to believe but, this simple farmer's boy found his way to the service of the Cudgel(common well known symbol of St. Cuthbert), as such I was trained to speak all proper when talking to others, but... when in my off hours like such, I reckon it easier to speak in my natural way of doing so, as I ain't doing no-one harm by speaking like this, tho I did get lectured for a lot. Hahaha."
She asks more about me, and the time I spent in Hyo Shin. "People are people, mam. Some good, others not so much. As a man of the Cudgel I always have to step in to best of my ability to fight against those that break the law. So, I do hope if ya hear me around you can be a little more at ease with your coin, though a good deed is always appreciated every now and then."
As I take my drink and take a sip, my thoughts are interrupted by a loud fox girl scolding another, and from the sound of things it seems like they are sisters. I can't help but, giggle at there situation, though I can't say I understand entirely having grown up an only child, though the bonds I developed during my studies does give me some idea. "Funny ain't it? The types of crowds we get here. You can count on family to be there for ya, even family that's unrelated by blood." |

Natasha waited patiently as Strum replied, unperturbed by his slightly awkward responses, and giving a gentle nod as he finally sat down – her first catch, how pleasant. Smiling slightly again as the boy stumbled over a title for her, the blonde seemed to pay close attention despite the idle discussion… though, she didn’t react noticeably when he mentioned his service to the Cudgel. Honestly, Natasha had no clue what it was, lacking much knowledge on religion on the whole despite her noble upbringing, and suffice to say her time as a witch certainly hadn’t gotten her involved with any matters of the divine. Still, she listened patiently – it might be a good question if she had nothing else to say, but she’d rather not admit her lack of knowledge. ”Mm; I see, I see. There’s no need to worry about your tone around me. I’ve spent a lot of time around both nobles and… simple types alike. I might have rather classy calibre to my own manner of speaking, but I’m anything but worried about anyone else’s demeanours. If I had the time to complain about people’s speech, then I think I’d be a lot more well-off here than I am, ufufu.” replied Natasha, her smile being a bit more gentle again now despite her giggle – as meaningless as it might be, she relished this sort of idle chatter. It was its own sort of meditation, wasn’t it? But, then this talk about fighting against lawbreakers and the like… for a fleeting moment, a frown ran over Natasha’s features – well, if she’d heard him around when she had gotten the aforementioned coin she sure as hell wouldn’t have been more at ease. Though she wouldn’t really consider herself a lawbreaker or anything so petty, she couldn’t say she got along with justice very well; outside of whatever she forged with her own hands. Her smile was soon in place again, though; defending her demeanour once more… it was probably unwise to earn the ire of anyone here in a hurry, and she wasn’t really feeling like doing a confession session when she had a meal on the way. She was similarly distracted by the nearby tussling, though, frowning much more distinctly upon hearing the snarling and arguing from the nearby voice – geez, maybe she should have stayed on the ground floor. Eyebrows furrowing, Natasha sighed with irritation, but her soured mood was thankfully interrupted by her company’s casual banter. It seemed the noise just rolled off of him like water… while it was comforting, she hoped it wasn’t a sign of how things usually were around here. ”Eh… depends on the family, but I suppose that’s true…” murmured Natasha in return, not too fond of the sentiment given her own experiences, but still being reasonable enough to not make a scene of the fact. ”Those cat people get everywhere, don’t they? I do wish they were a bit less mischievous, though…”

In response, to my slip up, she responds calmly about how it didn't bother her, and how if she had more time to complain about such things, she'd be doing better than she actually is. In response to this, I let out an honest laugh. "Hahaha, I suppose you're right. I do apologize, I've spent most of my recent life training in my order... Socialization... isn't strong suit of mine..." For a second, it seemed she worried about my offer to help out, if she was in danger. Does she underestimate my ability to help out...? "*clears throat* I know I may not sound the part, or well look it very well, but I am a Paladin, I can assure you, any evil that crosses my path, will rue making that mistake." I try to wipe out the hesitation in myself, and her by reassuring her my ability. I don't know why... but that frown of her's gave me a really bad feeling, perhaps one of questioning my own ability. Back on the topic of the loud family, Natasha seems to hesitantly agree, but I can't help sense uncertainty within her. She then goes on about the cat people in a manner that surprises me in it's judgmental nature. "Well, people are people, so I don't think it really matters much... As for my own family... I'll admit I could be a better son... but, thing... there are... things that I need to take care of first." In my attempt to comfort her on her doubts, I honestly reveal my own insecurities of how I left my mother behind to take care the farm on her own, while I selfishly pursued justice. It's always bothered me how I did so... but here in Hyo Shin a chance to earn coin, is a chance to do right by her, and make up for leaving her alone all those years... |
